The McCathie family tree is a work in progress that will be accessible to all McCathies around the globe. I am hoping to have the support of many other mccathie’s to work towards filling all the gaps in our family tree. I am currently compiling as much information as possible on our family tree. I do not only want to trace my direct family tree, but branch out and try and find where our common ancestors are.
The McCathie surname is derived from Macfie as are a lot more as seen in the next paragraph. Our Surname is a Dalriadan-Scottish nickname meaning peaceful dark featured individual. Macfie is one of the oldest Scottish Clan names with a history going back before records were kept. So in fact the Macfie name is the father to surnames derived from it hence we share the same tartan and coat of arms as we were once the same clan.
The following names are recognised by the Commander of Clan Macfie, Ceann-Cath A. C. (Sandy) McPhie, as being current acceptable surname spellings for members of the Clan. Variations in the spelling of these names are acceptable. Mac/Mc prefixes are considered to be interchangeable:
